Sen. Clinton Joins Olympic Bid
by Andrea Bernstein
NEW YORK, NY July 01, 2005 —Senator Hillary Clinton will join Mayor Bloomberg in Singapore in a last minute push to bring the 2012 summer olympic games to New York. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein reports.
Senator's Clinton's appearance will give the New York bid some high-wattage. Clinton and Bloomberg will argue that New York's multiculturalism, and its marketing opportunties the city an ideal choice to host the games.
But competition is fierce. Prime Minister Tony Blair is heading Britain's team and President Jacques Chirac is leading the French Delegation. The prime ministers of Russia and Spain will also attend.
Arriving in Singapore today, IOC president Jacques Rogge said he has a "gut feeling" this years selection could be a matter of a single vote. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein.
