150 Years of "Leaves of Grass"
by Soterios Johnson
NEW YORK, NY July 01, 2005 —This 4th of July marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass."
It's been called possibly the greatest book of American poetry ever written. The collection is a celebration of Whitman's vision of America as an all-inclusive, all-embracing democracy. Joining me now is Karen Karbiener, co-curator of a new exhibit on Whitman opening tomorrow at the South Street Seaport Museum.
