AIDS Research on Foster Kids
WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY June 16, 2005 —Some AIDS drugs research conducted at Columbia Medical Center violated federal rules meant to protect young people from medical research risks. That's according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.
The studies were carried out in the 1990's and several foster children were among the participants. The report says the hospital failed to obtain and evaluate whether it had proper consents and safeguards for the foster children.
