Jets Won't Give Up on Stadium
by Andrea Bernstein
NEW YORK, NY June 08, 2005 —The New York Jets say they are not giving up their pursuit of a stadium on Manhattan's West Side.
At a raucous and sometimes angry press conference of West Side stadium supporters, Jets president Jay Cross says the team has been through far too much to give up now.
CROSS: We're down this week, we'll be back up next week. the West Side is far too important to New York.
REPORTER: The Jets aren't saying what options they are exploring, but some supporters are suggesting the plan could be resubmitted to the public authorities control board without $300 million in funding, or that it could be rerouted through the city council, a majority of whose members support the project.
Meanwhile, The jets say they intend to go ahead and buy the air rights to the Hudson Railyards from the MTA. The MTA hasn't said if they're still for sale.
