Jets Claim Victory in Stadium Deal
by Andrea Bernstein
NEW YORK, NY June 02, 2005 —The New York Jets are claiming "complete and total victory" in today's legal decision allowing them to take over the Hudson Rail Yards from the MTA.
REPORTER: A state supreme court justice has thrown out four lawsuits that alleged the MTA acted unfairly in awarding the railyards to the football team. The judge thrashed Madison Square Garden's arguments, saying the Garden failed to show any way the MTA had acted unreasonably. And he said the good government groups lacked standing to sue, becuase THEY hadn't been injured.
Jets President Jay Cross said even he didn't expect such a favorable ruling
CROSS: We were pleasantly surprised to see to what degree judge kahn agreed with our position.
REPORTER: The Jets hope to win final approval from a state board tomorrow. They are also still fighting lawsuits claiming the west side protect would cause environmental harm.
