Codo-convert Won't Stop Plaza High Tea
by Fred Mogul
NEW YORK, NY April 14, 2005 —High tea will continue to be served in the Palm Court at the Plaza, even after much of the famed Hotel is converted into condominiums.
The Oak Room, the grand ballroom, and other storied spaces will be perserved as part of a deal between the hospitality workers' union and Elad properties, which aquired the Plaza earlier this year.
Almost 350 of more than 800 rooms will remain for hotel guests, more than twice the number originally projected. Bloomberg made the announcement in a ballroom filled with hundreds of cheering workers.
Bloomberg said the two sides have been neogiating around the clock since the weekend at city hall.
