Westchester Bus Strike in Fifth Day

by WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY March 07, 2005 —Talks will resume this afternoon in the Westchester Bee-Line bus strike.

A spokesman for the Transit Workers Union Local 100 says both parties are assembled at a Tarrytown Hotel and ready to discuss issues such as pension, overtime, and health care costs that have led workers to walk off the job last week.

The strike has left 55,000 commuters without a ride to work.

The Bee-Line bus strike is now in its fifth day.

The Bee-Line buses average about 55,000 riders in Westchester each day. Riders are facing another morning commute where they will have to find alternative ways of getting around.

Some high schools have reported increased absenteeism, especially in Yonkers, where students depend on the buses to get to school.
