Hip-Hop and the Media
by Amy Eddings
March 04, 2005 —Some Hip-Hop artists and activists held a rally this afternoon protesting WQHT, Hot 97, the scene of a shooting earlier this week between associates of Hip-Hop artist Fifty Cent, and his one-time protege and now rival, The Game.
They say the station, "Exploits and misuses Hip-Hop culture under the false pretense of doing good business, yet resurrects nasty stereotypes about Hip-Hop music and culture." Joining us now to talk about Hip-Hop and the media is David Davey D Cook, a columnist with the San Jose Mercury news and host of a Hip-Hop talk show, Hard Knock, on KPFA in San Francisco.

Note: After this story aired on WNYC, Amy Eddings also said, "A spokesperson for Hot 97 said this: When you're the number one station it makes you a target for criticism. The artists make a choice to put those beefs on the records. To hold Hot 97 accountable is disingenuous."
