Extra B Trains May Compensate for Troubled A and C Lines

by Amy Eddings

NEW YORK, NY January 28, 2005 —In an effort to ease crowding on the snarled A and C subway lines, New York City Transit says it will run additional B trains weekdays during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Repair work continues at the Chambers Street signal room damaged by fire last Sunday.

On his weekly WABC Radio show, Mayor Bloomberg said the fire may have been an act of arson: "The fire experts think that it was deliberate, but they have no suspects, and it's just a theory. Nobody's really sure. What's sure is that this fire started in this wire, outside the room, and went down the wire into the room."

Bloomberg was calling in from Staten Island before heading to the funeral of firefighter Richard Sclafani. He died fighting a Brooklyn blaze last weekend.
