NEW YORK, NY November 12, 2004 —We've been hearing a lot this week about the MTA's proposal to hike the cost of subways, buses and tolls. There were public hearings in New York City and in the suburbs. And Friday a State Assembly committee spent almost two hours grilling the executive director and chairman of the MTA. There were many questions about why the authority is still planning a fare hike when it's now expecting to end the year with extra 300 milion dolars. WNYC's Beth Fertig has been covering the story all week and joins me now in the studio.
