Communion Denied to Pro Choice Pols

by Amy Eddings

NEW YORK, NY May 26, 2004 — Roman Catholic leaders have been weighing in on the issue of giving communion to Catholic politicians who support abortion rights. In New Jersey, Archbishop John Myers of Newark, weighed in with a pastoral letter earlier this month. That letter stirred up controversy between the archbishop and New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, who later said he would no longer receive communion in public. The archbishop joins WNYC's All Things Considered host Amy Eddings to talk about an issue garnering a lot of attention during this presidential election year.
