Excruciating Detail in 9/11 Commission Hearings

by Andrea Bernstein

NEW YORK, NY May 18, 2004 — The September 11th Commission brought its public hearings to the New School University in Greenwich Village today. The focus of today's hearings was how well the city's emergency responders coordinated with one another on the day of the attacks - and what, if anything, has changed since. The day started with a staff report that gave excruciating, minute by minute detail of what happened in and around the Twin Towers between 8:46 and 10:29 that morning. That was followed by sometimes contentious testimony by Port Authority chiefs, and former Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik and Fire Commissioner Thomas von Essen. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein has been following the hearings.
