Education groups are calling on the state to fork out an extra 2 billion dollars next year on school aid beyond the 14 billion it's currently spending. The proposal was released yesterday by the Campaign for Fiscal Equity - the same coalition which got the state's highest court to rule that New York City schools aren't getting enough money. The court also ordered the state to come up with a new funding formula but that's not going to be easy. WNYC's Beth Fertig interviewed Michael Rebell, the executive director of CFE, and asked him why he considers 2 billion dollars just a down-payment.
