Child Sexual Abuse Statute of Limitations

NEW YORK, NY March 22, 2002 — Advocates for people who were abused by priests when they were children say it takes many victims decades to talk about their experiences with family members and police. They've expressed hope that the widening sexual abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic church will encourage more people to come forward. But in New York, a narrow statute of limitations in civil and criminal cases means many victims will not have any legal recourse. WNYC's Amy Eddings reports
