Red Hook-ites Speak Out on IKEA

BROOKLYN, NY October 12, 2004 —The City Council is set to vote Wednesday on whether an IKEA store will come to Brooklyn. It has the support of council committees, the Bloomberg administration and some local elected officials and is expected to get the go-ahead, despite great division among the residents of Red Hook. Most agree that the decrepit waterfront site needs development but the contention is over what should go there. WNYC's Richard Hake has this profile of the neighborhood.
