NEW YORK, NY October 30, 2009 —With just days to go before voters cast ballots in New Jersey's governor's race, both the Corzine and Christie campaigns are targeting Bergen County as a key battleground. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.

REPORTER: Governor Jon Corzine will be in Englewood at a forum on family issues. His running mate, State Senator Loretta Weinberg, has two events nearby. Meanwhile, Republican Chris Christie will be teaming up with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in Mahwah and Paramus.

Bergen County voters strongly supported Barack Obama over John McCain last year, but they gave county Republicans some hope with victories in local contests. The GOP thinks it can capitalize on the recent corruption convictions of three top Democrats. Bergen is an affluent county with a mostly white population, but Latino and Asian communities are growing fast and so is their political power. In New Jersey for WNYC, I am Bob Hennelly.
