NYC Gets Federal Stimulus Funds for Housing
by Arun Venugopal
NEW YORK, NY August 18, 2009 —Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson are trumpeting what they call the nation's first affordable housing developments to be built with federal stimulus funds.
Three developments in Harlem, and a fourth in East New York, will use $60 million in federal funds to create more than 700 units of affordable housing.
BLOOMBERG: We're dedicating these federal dollars towards reviving projects that otherwise would've been abandoned in the economic downturn.
REPORTER: According to John Rhea, the head of the New York City Housing Authority, the projects will generate more than 2,800 construction jobs over the next two years.
