NEW YORK, NY August 03, 2009 —A grand jury has indicted ex-New York Giant Plaxico Burress on weapons charges, after the former football star shot himself in the thigh with an unlicensed handgun last November. Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau says Burress got neither easy nor harsh treatment from the grand jury thought was fair.

MORGENTHAU: That is the law. The law is, if you possess a loaded gun, without a license, that is a C violent felony.

Burress faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and one count of reckless endangerment. His former teammate, Antonio Pierce, who was with him that night, was not indicted. Both testified before the grand jury.
