A Sotomayor Diary
by Marianne McCune and Zila Acosta
NEW YORK, NY July 17, 2009 —Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor captured the attention of millions of Americans during her confirmation hearings this week. some more so than others:
Twenty year old Zila Acosta comes from a part-Puerto Rican, part-Dominican family. Her mother is a school principal, and her father is a judge. Acosta is a student at Columbia University, but she also works for a political consulting group run by two prominent Puerto Ricans. So she thought a lot this week about how a person's background has an impact on what they do.
Her story was prduced by WNYC's Marianne McCune.
