Investigating Fatal Shooting in Brooklyn
by WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY July 16, 2009 —The Brooklyn District Attorney's office has established a special hotline in the case of a fatal shooting that's raised questions about police conduct.
Shem Walker was shot by an undercover officer on his mother's Clinton Hill doorstep last Saturday during an altercation between the men.
Kirsten John Foy, a member of Al Sharpton's National Action Network, says there's ongoing tension between the family and police, including a conflict last night on Lafayette Avenue.
FOY: The assaults by those thug officers last night re-victimizing victims, is unacceptable. The District Attorney has pledged that he will aggressively pursue these matters and investigate them fully.
REPORTER: Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne says pushing and shoving erupted last night when officers tried to question someone outside the Walker residence.
The Brooklyn DA's office says it's looking into that incident as well as the initial shooting on Saturday, and will decide if the case should go before a grand jury.
