NEW YORK, NY July 10, 2009 —The coup is over, or long live the coup? Republicans have gone back to being the minority party in the State Senate, after temporarily seizing power when two Democrats joined their conference on June 8. But after Bronx Democrat Pedro Espada went back to his conference yesterday, the Democrats are back in charge.

That arrangement might still be fragile with a bare majority of 32 votes to 30. But both sides are claiming they're winners.
