After Albany Stalemate, Some Espada Constituents Feel Cheated
WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY July 10, 2009 —State Senator Pedro Espada says he's back with the Democrats again, after crossing over to the Republican conference in what led to a month-long stalemate in Albany.
REPORTER: But some residents of his overwhelmingly Democratic district in the Bronx Members aren't ready to forgive and forget.
Lamar Simpson says he worked for Espada as a mail clerk in 2002.
SIMPSON: I felt the need to do it because I was like hey I'm living here in the Bronx, here is a Spanish guy trying to do something for the community. Now that I went all out for him, I feel like I've been dumped!
REPORTER: Espada has claimed he sided with the Republicans to try to get reforms passed, and that he now believes Democrats are committed to making the Senate more fair.
