NEW YORK, NY July 02, 2009 —The divided New York State Senate remains firmly split, and Governor Paterson is making good on his promise to keep the feuding senators in the Capitol until they can get along. Karen DeWitt reports from Albany.

REPORTER: Democrats continued to claim that votes on over 100 bills taken Tuesday were valid even though they counted a Republican senator, who happened to be walking across the chamber to get a cup of coffee, as the crucial 32nd vote.

The Republican-dominated coalition held an open leaders meeting but Democrats didn't show up. Governor Paterson says there will be plenty of time for the senators to think about resolving their arguments since they will be spending the holiday weekend at the capitol.

PATERSON: I have issued proclamations for special sessions through July 6th. Yes the legislators are spending the July 4th weekend in Albany, hopefully resolving this conflict.

REPORTER: The senators ended their 9th special session Wednesday, but accomplished nothing. In Albany, I'm Karen DeWitt.
