Buildings Department Find Inspection Procedures Spotty
by Ilya Marritz
NEW YORK, NY June 26, 2009 —An internal report by the city's Buildings Department found inspectors are poorly trained, and their inspection procedures vary from person to person. On his weekly radio show this morning on WOR, the mayor responded to the findings.
BLOOMBERG: We have to take a look and see what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong; never understood why the government is afraid to put out bad news as well as good news. It's public's right to know.
The report follows 19 construction fatalities last year. Of those, nine occurred in two crane collapses.
