MTA Says Number 7 Tunnel 'Seems' to be On Time

NEW YORK, NY June 19, 2009 —Contractors finished excavating a cavern underneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal in six months. The job was supposed to take up to three years.
But Chief Engineer Joe Trainor says they have to beat some internal deadlines, if they want to finish the project on time.
TRAINOR: The date for operation is the end of 2013, which is extremely ambitious so we have to find ways to tighten up the schedule.
REPORTER: The more than $2 billion project will extend the Number 7 line west to 11th avenue, and south to 34th street.
