NEW YORK, NY May 01, 2009 —Immigrants demanding equal rights and fair treatment rallied at Madison Square Park in Manhattan today. A woman who would only identify herself as Mary from Zimbabwe held up a sign that read stop separating families. She says she wants to bring her children and grandchildren to the United States, so they can all gain citizenship.

MARY: I'm by myself here. Suffer all the time. The thing is tearing me. I'm so depressed about that.

The gathering was much smaller than previous rallies. Organizers say that's because in the past people took to the streets to oppose anti-immigrant sentiment coming out of Washington. Today organizers say the relationship with the Obama administration is more positive.
