NEW YORK, NY April 21, 2009 —The selection of a new borough president doesn't seem to be raising much interest in the Bronx today. A special election is underway to fill the seat vacated by Adolfo Carrion, who's now director of the White House office of Urban Affairs. Poll coordinator Shirley Matthew says there hasn't been much foot traffic at the Bronx County Courthouse polling site.

MATTHEW: The turnout has been very slow and we're hoping it'll pick up as the work day ends.

Candidates vying for Bronx Borough President are Bronx Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Junior, a democrat and son of State Senator Ruben Diaz and Republican Anthony Ribustello, an actor who's making a first run for office.
