Law to Make "Doorbuster Sales" Safer
WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY December 01, 2008 —A New York City lawmaker says the city needs to ensure that so-called "doorbuster sales" don't turn into tragedies like the one that claimed the life of an employee of a Wal-Mart on Long Island.
Queens Councilman James Gennaro says his "doorbuster" bill would require malls and large retailers to take appropriate security measures during big sales events that attract a number of shoppers.
Jimmy Damour of Queens died early Friday morning after being trampled by shoppers storming into the Wal-Mart in Valley Stream.
