Mineo Thanks Sharpton for Taking up His Cause

WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY November 08, 2008 —A man who says police officers sodomized him with a radio antenna has appeared with the Reverend Al Sharpton at a National Action Network rally. Michael Mineo thanked Sharpton for visiting him at his hospital bed last month:

MINEO: I want to say I appreciate everyone in New York City that believes in my story. And the cops, they're gonna be brought to justice. That's all I'm looking for.

Mineo's lawyer also appeared at the rally and blasted the police officials for their quick denials of the tattoo artist's account. Mineo says four officers approached him on October 15th, because they believed he was smoking marijuana. He fled into a Brooklyn subway station, where he says one officer sodomized him. Mineo testified before a grand jury this week.

The NYPD disputes that, saying it has witnesses who were at the scene and will refute the allegations.
