Fort Greene Reacts to Recent Shooting

NEW YORK, NY November 01, 2008 —The Fort Greene hair salon where five people were shot on Monday is expected to reopen today. Many in the area have been discussing how such a sensational crime could happen there -- in the middle of the afternoon. WNYC's Kathleen Horan checked in with people who live and work in the Brooklyn neighborhood:

Community colleges are playing a growing role in American higher education. But their graduation rates have long been dismal. Students who enroll in community colleges tend to be poorer and less academically successful than students at four-year colleges. Most need remedial classes, especially in math.
