NEW YORK, NY October 28, 2008 —More than 5,000 seats are still available in the city's pre-kindergarten classes and City Council members are trying to spread the word.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn and other Councilmembers are distributing flyers across the city to encourage parents to sign up their four-year-olds by Friday.

Although October 31st is not the last day that families can enroll students it is the last day the City can receive the full reimbursement from the State. Last year, the City had to send $30 million dollars back to the state because some of the 58,000 thousand pre-K slots were not used.
