Dog Days for Gray's Recession Special
by Kathleen Horan
NEW YORK, NY October 22, 2008 —The Manhattan hot dog chain "Gray's Papaya" has been offering its popular "recession special" for years so it's a bit ironic, now that we're probably in one, the price of two dogs and a drink has gone up nearly a buck - from $3.50 to $4.45. Regular customers like Gordon Ramsey are not happy.
RAMSEY: It went up almost a buck...that crummy!
REPORTER: Brooklyn's Elena Arroyo says even though she eats at Gray's to save money, she's taking the price hike in stride.
ARROYO: To me it's whatever because everything else is going up too and they have to pay for their supplies and everything so, c'mon.
REPORTER: The last time the Recession special went up was 2006.
