by Patricia Willens

NEW YORK, NY October 14, 2008 —Included in this most recent group are eight who died from 9-11 related illnesses.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says this is significant milestone because it acknowledges the sacrifice of those who worked in the rescue and recovery efforts after the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Kelly: It is a recognition that officers acted heroically and gave their lives even though the date of death may not have been September 11th.

REPORTER: One of the names included is James Zadroga whose death sparked a strong debate that continues to this day.

It's over how and when to link 9-11 recovery work to an individual's illness.
