NEW YORK, NY October 13, 2008 —Mayor Bloomberg today praised the City Council speaker for supporting his bid to change the term limits law and run for a third term. After keeping her cards close to the vest for weeks, Christine Quinn announced yesterday her endorsement of the mayor's proposal. She said it would offer the city a "continuity of leadership" during the current economic crisis. Bloomberg credited Quinn for reversing an earlier position.

BLOOMBERG: She’s changed her mind and there's nothing wrong with changing your mind when the facts change. As a matter of fact, people who don't change their minds when the facts change are dogmatic, rather than being pragmatic.

REPORTER: The mayor, speaking to reporters at the Columbus Day parade, insists he did not offer Quinn a position in his administration in exchange for her support. Public hearings on the legislation, and two opposing bills, will be held this Thursday and Friday.
