NEW YORK, NY October 07, 2008 —As Mayor Bloomberg's bill to repeal term limits was introduced to the City Council, the body's speaker, Christine Quinn, has yet to take a position on the controversial measure. Speaker Quinn says she's continuing to deliberate with her Democratic colleagues on what position she should take on the mayor's term limit repeal bill.

Speaking at her customary press conference before today's full meeting, Quinn says the bill would get two public hearings on October 16th and 17th, clearing the way for a final vote before the end of the month. Quinn's reticence buoyed the confidence of the 15 or so Council members who oppose Bloomberg's bill and want voters to weigh in by referendum. Outside, a rally by the Working Families Party drew a crowd opposed to the mayor's attempt to repeal term limits through the Council.
