The Museum of Arts and Design Opens in Columbus Circle

NEW YORK, NY September 23, 2008 —The Museum of Arts and Design opens this Saturday. It has gone through several transformations in its over 50 year history: new names, new buildings and even a little controversy. Now it's set up in a newly refurbished building at 2 Columbus Circle. Lee Rosenbaum is an art critic who got a preview of the space and the exhibitions, and she joins Richard Hake to discuss the building.

Community colleges are playing a growing role in American higher education. But their graduation rates have long been dismal. Students who enroll in community colleges tend to be poorer and less academically successful than students at four-year colleges. Most need remedial classes, especially in math. To see why math is such a hurdle, WNYC’s Beth Fertig spent the fall of 2009 visiting a class at LaGuardia Community College in Queens.
