UN General Assembly Ties Up Traffic

Massive Street Closures on the Ease Side

by Amy Eddings

NEW YORK, NY September 22, 2008 —The United Nations' General Assembly is causing traffic headaches along Manhattan's East Side.

Many streets near the UN, and the Midtown hotels where diplomats and heads of state are staying, are closed, included 44th, 45th and 46th Streets from First to Second Avenues, and 49th and 50th Streets between Lexington and Park.

Nearly 200 world leaders are expected to attend, including Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Present Bush. They are scheduled to address the UN tomorrow. It will be President Bush's final time to speak to the international body.
