Paterson Says LMDC Should Continue its Work

by Matthew Schuerman

NEW YORK, NY September 13, 2008 —Governor Paterson says he wants to hold onto the agency in charge of planning at Ground Zero.

REPORTER: Earlier this week, Mayor Bloomberg suggested eliminating the state's Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, to expedite development at the World Trade Center site. But the Governor says the LMDC provides a crucial source of revenue that the city can't afford to lose.

PATERSON: The way the LMDC works is there are resources that the would be coming available that we would have to give up to shut the LMDC down. So we don't think that's an immediate decision we'd like to make.

REPORTER: The governor also says it may not be legally possible to disband the LMDC, which funnels federal aid to New York projects and organizations.
