State Republicans Say McCain Can Win New York

by Fred Mogul

NEW YORK, NY September 05, 2008 —Local Republicans say they’re going to bring the energy home from the Twin Cities to their very Democratic state and persuade New Yorkers to vote for John McCain.

REPORTER: They believe McCain has broad, non-partisan appeal to Democrats even after a week of being portrayed as the party of high taxes, big government and weak defenses. Philip Byler, of Huntington, admits there has been growing Democratic party affiliation in his area, but he says there’s also a deep conservative streak.

BYLER: There is no reason why a McCain-Palin ticket would not take the majority of the votes, given who lives on Long Island.

REPORTER: State campaign chairman Edward Cox says New York Republicans always have to get by with relatively little funding because the national party spends most of its money in more closely contested areas. And though there is no campaign headquarters anywhere in the Empire State, Cox pledged that McCain and Palin would visit to help make the race viable regionally.
