New Yorkers React to Palin Pick
WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY August 30, 2008 —John McCain's choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate is being met with skepticism from some New Yorkers.
REPORTER: Brooklyn resident Martha Llamas says she's "ticked off" by the GOP nominee's selection of a 44-year-old woman; she cals it an act of "oneupmanship" against the Democrats:
LLAMAS: Because I think Hillary Clinton would have been a great choice for democratic vice president -- it's like tit for tat they just have to out play one another.
REPORTER: That very well may be the point. Nassau and New York State GOP chairman Joseph Mondello told Newsday, "Democrats who really wanted Hillary will like the idea that a female is going to be on the ticket." The choice has drawn praise from New Jersey Republicans. Former governor Tom Kean says Palin is a tough executive who knows how to bring together Democrats and Republicans.
