Newark Mayor Responds to Obama Speech
by Bob Hennelly
NEW YORK, NY August 29, 2008 —Metro area elected officials are reacting to last night's acceptance speech by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Newark Mayor Cory Booker was at Mile High Stadium last night. He says the importance of Obama's speech went beyond a single election.
BOOKER: This is not just about partisan politics, this is a moment of America, and I think it's a celebration we should all see. To see him up there right now giving that speech. It's not black or white, republican or democrat simply. Right now this is an affirmation for the best of what we stand for. Whether you agree with him or not, it's an affirmation of the greatness of America.
REPORTER: As Republicans prepare for their convention in St. Paul next week, presumptive GOP nominee John McCain is expected to announce his choice for Vice President in Dayton, Ohio, today.
