Jazzmobile Arrives in Newark

NEW YORK, NY August 26, 2008 —Newark, New Jersey used to be a hotbed for jazz -- it was the birthplace of jazz singer Sarah Vaughan and hosted swinging clubs along its piers. But the Newark riots destroyed all that.
This summer, jazz returned to the city through Jazzmobile -- a program founded over 40 years ago to bring jazz to under-served neighborhoods. Heather Haddon found out how Newark is staging a jazz resurrection.
