NEW YORK, NY August 26, 2008 —So far, no one from New Jersey is scheduled to address Democrats in Denver. But as WNYC's Bob Hennelly reports, Garden State delegates are making a push to get Sen. Robert Menendez to the podium.

Menendez boosters are making the case to DNC planners and the Obama campaign that when the Hudson County Cuban-American was elected to the Senate, it made front page headlines in Florida where Cuban-Americans have long been electoral kingmakers.

The move would also be seen as conciliatory since Menendez backed Sen. Hillary Clinton. One of the Obama campaign's top challenges is to engage Latinos who were some of Clinton's most passionate supporters.

The New Jersey delegation, when asked about the lack of Jersey presence on stage, say they understand that precious podium time has to go to swing states where Obama is not running as well as he is in New Jersey. In Denver for WNYC, I am Bob Hennelly.
