NEW YORK, NY August 19, 2008 —The City of New York has agreed to pay $2 million to anti-war demonstrators arrested in April 2003 outside the Manhattan offices of a military contractor.

After four years of litigation, the city's law department and 52 demonstrators who argued they were unjustly arrested signed the settlement agreement today.

The city did not acknowledge wrongdoing or liability and attorneys for the demonstrators maintained that they would have won in a trial but accepting a settlement saved time and money.
