MTA Fare Hike Draws Stiff Criticism
by Matthew Schuerman
NEW YORK, NY July 22, 2008 —The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's proposed 8 percent fare and toll hike has everyone talking and it hasn't even been officially unveiled yet. The agency says rising fuel costs and slumping real estate tax revenues have stretched a $900 million hole in its budget. WNYC's Matthew Schuerman summarizes the reaction for All Things Considered’s Amy Eddings.
