Heat Brings Air Quality Alert to City
WNYC Newsroom
NEW YORK, NY July 18, 2008 —The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert till 10 o'clock tonight, urging residents to limit strenuous activities because of added pollutants in the air.
The city has opened cooling centers to help New Yorkers weather the heat, but Danny Taft, says he was unfazed by the temperatures as he ate his lunch outside in midtown.
TAFT: Today it's actually not that bad. It's not as humid as it’s been, so I'm actually kinda liking it out here.
REPORTER: The heat advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m., as temperatures climbed toward the upper 90s.
You can get a list of open cooling centers online at nyc.gov.
