What's on the Playlist at Midsummer Night's Swing
25th Year of Lincoln Center Event Kicks Off Tonight

NEW YORK, NY July 08, 2008 —Much of the Lincoln Center campus is hidden behind construction barriers and its central plaza is temporarily shut down for renovation. Midsummer Night's Swing has been relocated to Damrosch Park, behind the New York State Theater. And that's not the only change. This year, Midsummer Night's Swing is programmed by Bill Bragin, who made his name running the genre-crossing musical hot spot Joe's Pub. Now, he's brought his eclectic taste uptown. He walked us through some of the performers, like Nellie McKay, that he hopes will make the dance floor swing this summer.

Community colleges are playing a growing role in American higher education. But their graduation rates have long been dismal. Students who enroll in community colleges tend to be poorer and less academically successful than students at four-year colleges. Most need remedial classes, especially in math. To see why math is such a hurdle, WNYC’s Beth Fertig spent the fall of 2009 visiting a class at LaGuardia Community College in Queens.
