Advocates Rally Against Market Closures

Bruce Both is president of the United Food and Commercial Workers union. He says the proposed closing of a Key Food in the Soundview section of the Bronx is part of a bigger crisis.
BOTH: The building blocks of every supermarket are good food, good jobs and good health. These blocks are being destroyed by developers and the landlords that squeeze every last dollar of profit from rent charges.
REPORTER: Both wants the Bloomberg administration and the City Council to step in to prevent further closings of neighborhood supermarkets.
According to a City Planning report, more than 1/3 of the city's supermarkets have closed in the past five years.
