Customs Officers Arrested in Drug Probe

by Brian Zumhagen

NEW YORK, NY May 28, 2008 —Two New York-based Customs and Border Protection officers are among seven people charged in a federal drug probe.

Prosecutors say the group imported hashish and other drugs and contraband into the US through JFK. Those arrested include a Customs supervisor who allegedly accepted and solicited bribes to permit contraband to pass through without inspection.

A second inspector who worked with him is also charged. The others arrested include two Customs brokers, an operations manager of a cargo cooperative, and two importers of counterfeit goods and controlled substances.
