New Sounds Live
2005-2006 Concert Season
The 19th annual concert series hosted by John Schaefer
To get the 19th annual season underway, the New Sounds Live concert series marks a milestone for composer and vocal innovator Meredith Monk. On
Wednesday, November 9, 2005, hear two different west coast bands, AXIS Dance Company (pictured, right) and Pacific Mozart Ensemble, perform music by Meredith Monk to mark her 40th Anniversary season. Plus, the following Wednesday, November 16th, Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble perform excerpts from Book of Days and other landmark pieces.
An incredible presentation of new music for silent films comes to the World Financial Center's Winter Garden on February 16 & 17, 2006, with Carl Dreyer's 1928 silent film accompanied by a live performance of Richard Einhorn's Visions of Light. This masterful choral and orchestral work will be performed by Ensemble Sospeso, Anonymous 4, soloist Susan Narucki and other vocal soloists.
On February 22, 2006, don't miss the Bang On A Can
People's Commissioning Fund concert, with the new commissions by Yoav Gal, Annie Gosfield and John Hollenbeck, at Merkin Hall. An intriguing evening of "is it chamber music?/is it rock music" closes the New Sounds Live season, with a post-rock pairing of Rachel's and Clogs at Merkin Hall on Thursday, May 25, 2006.
All of the concerts,
hosted by John Schaefer, will be taped for future broadcast on WNYC.
